The student of the Smolny Institute, Varya Vorontsova, dreamed of an evening at the ball hosted by Prince Kurakin – she was supposed to shine in high society and dance with suitors, but the celebration turned into a nightmare for the girl. After the waltz, a young ensign gave the girl a lovely brooch, and the next day the news spread throughout St. Petersburg that an unknown person had stolen the family jewel – the brooch – from Prince Kurakin right during the ball. Now a real hunt is underway for Varya: authorities are searching for the culprit of the theft, while the criminals are looking for the person who stood in their way. To save her life and reputation, Varvara will have to secretly investigate this crime and find the real thief.
