The Master of the White Deer

Since time immemorial, in the endless snowy expanses of the Arctic, the Nenets build chums, herd reindeer, and worship pagan gods... These people are strong in spirit and possess the wisdom of many generations. Not every outsider will be welcomed into their traditions and culture; they will not call everyone a brother or give them a Nenets name. The reindeer herders themselves call themselves "neney nenéch" — "real people." And their cold and beautiful homeland, created according to legends from a lump of raw clay, is called "Ya-Mal" — "the edge of the earth."
