Denis is convinced that he is very lucky with his mom. She can do everything at once! Frying and boiling, squeezing lemon, watering flowers, cleaning the house, playing ball with Denis, typing on the laptop. And she talks on the...
phone too! And she manages it all! One day Denis found a book on the shelf with a creature on the cover that had a bunch of legs or arms, resembling… his mom! But mom said it was a book about an octopus. And then Denis realized: his mom doesn’t even suspect her multi-armed capabilities! He decided that he had to save mom urgently because a person shouldn’t resemble an octopus. It so happened that his discovery coincided with their move to another city where mom was born and raised. There still lived Denis’s grandma and grandpa, his aunt, mom’s younger sister, old friends, and kind neighbors of their family. So it turned out that Denis had a lot of helpers in the mission to save his mom. Grandma cooked food, grandpa took Denis to kindergarten, mom’s childhood friend worked with him, and Denis with his aunt helped mom manage household chores. And with each passing day, mom had fewer and fewer arms, until one beautiful evening Denis noticed that now she had as many as a person should have. Exactly two! And then he realized that his mom was saved!
Probably, every mom is familiar with this feeling when she starts to feel like an octopus, or rather, an octo-mom. The author of this book, Asle Perker, also noticed that after the birth of her daughter, she was slowly turning into an octopus. That’s when she decided to write about it so that all children could learn how to help their octo-moms become happy. The illustrations for this book were created by another mom – artist Ezgi Keles, who also manages to raise a child, train a cat, and illustrate children’s books and magazines.
The book is intended for reading aloud to children aged 3 to 5 years and for looking at pictures and counting the arms and legs of Denis's mom together.
