Commissioner Trokich travels from Aarhus to Anchorage to assist in the investigation of the murder of a Danish volcanologist's family. Asger Vad, his wife, and son are found shot dead in a house on the outskirts of the city. The killer arranged the victims around a table, on which he placed a dollhouse with four small dolls and sprinkled a mound of volcanic ash. However, one person is missing from the table. The eleven-year-old daughter of the Vad family has disappeared. Did she run away or was she taken by the killer?..
In Anchorage, Trokich will team up with local police officer Angie Johnson, and their joint hunt for the insane criminal and search for the missing teenage girl will begin.
