This collection includes stories written by the forefather of many directions in modern horror literature, Howard Lovecraft — a writer so iconic that he does not need any special introduction to this day. All works in this book can be... divided into two groups. The first includes stories written from beginning to end by Lovecraft himself, based on drafts or synopses provided to him by author friends. The second group consists of those in which Lovecraft's involvement was limited to editing (often quite substantial, resulting in a completely new work) and various textual additions of differing importance. In these, Lovecraft often revealed himself quite unexpectedly, showcasing talent in plots that, to someone familiar with the author's universe primarily through "The Call of Cthulhu," might seem atypical or even inappropriate for the writer's signature style.
