The characterless dreamer Manilov, the semi-literate hoarder Korobochka, the braggart Nozdryov, the coarse and straightforward Sobakevich, the pathological miser Plyushkin... Each of them represents an exaggerated image, composed of vices and weaknesses. And how vividly they manifest when the visiting guest Pavel Ivanovich Chichikov decides to buy the dead souls of serfs from them!
