Elena Knows

Rita was found hanged on the church bell tower. The police are certain – it’s suicide, and they are not conducting an investigation. But Rita’s mother, Elena, knows that her daughter could not have taken her own life. Elena needs to leave her home and traverse the entire city to speak with the one person who can help her understand what really happened to her daughter. But Elena has Parkinson's disease. Her journey turns into a vast and complicated trek, feasible only for a mother who knows she is right in everything concerning her daughter. "Elena Knows" is a detective story, a family drama, and a novel about illness and corporeality, but it is also a novel about a mother's love, which sometimes proves stronger than illness, and at times – even deadlier.
