The Golem and the Jinn

It is hard to be a stranger among people, even harder to be an alien. In 1899,... two mythical beings find themselves in New York City. A golem, created from clay in a female form, meant to faithfully serve her master, loses him on the way to America, and sudden freedom turns into utter torment. A jinn, accidentally released from millennia of imprisonment by a tinsmith from New York's Little Syria, has forgotten the past that preceded his captivity; powerless in a human body, he dreams of breaking free from these shackles. The revived characters of ancient legends are very lonely, but one night in the midst of an empty city, their paths will cross… "The Golem and the Jinn" is a "metaphorical autobiography" — according to the author, the novel is based on her personal story, inspired by the commonalities between two families from different cultural traditions. In 2014, the book was awarded the Mythopoeic Award for Best Novel.
