The series "The Fox's Shadow" is a young adult fantasy by American author Julie Kagawa. The action of the novels takes place in a fantastical version of Japan called Iwagoto. At the center of the plot is a kitsune girl (in Japanese mythology — a fox with supernatural abilities) trying to protect a magical scroll, and a shinobi boy trying to find that same scroll. Once every thousand years, the Great Dragon appears to the one who holds the Scroll of a Thousand Prayers. A mortal who reads the prayer can make one wish — and it will definitely come true. But last time a mortal's wish caused chaos, and the Scroll had to be split into three parts, so that no one could take advantage of it. One of the fragments is discovered by Yumeko in the Temple of Quiet Winds. Yumeko is half kitsune, half human. She is forced to embark on a dangerous journey to protect the fragment of the ancient scroll. Only she does not yet know that her companion, the mysterious samurai of the Shadow Clan, whom she meets along the way, also dreams of acquiring the scroll. And he will do anything to find it.
