Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin (1799–1837) — a great poet and classic of Russian literature, who laid the foundations of Russian realistic direction and initiated the emergence of a unified national literary language in Russia, a prose writer, publicist, literary critic, historian, and playwright, as well as editor and publisher of the St. Petersburg magazine "Sovremennik". Gogol noted in him "an extraordinary phenomenon and, perhaps, the only manifestation of the Russian spirit." Veresaev called him "an unfathomably attractive and enchanting person — a living person!" This collection presents the best poems and ballads of Pushkin, written in different years.
