The Blind

Maurice Maeterlinck is a stunning, avant-garde Belgian playwright. Most people know him from childhood through the famous "Blue Bird," but many other mysterious, symbolic plays also deserve attention. All creators of the Silver Age adored Maeterlinck for his dark plots, in which the heroes are shackled by Schopenhauer's unfathomable world. In Russia, Maeterlinck was recommended for staging by Chekhov, and Stanislavsky noted: "Apart from Maeterlinck, there are no interesting novelties ahead." The collection includes translations by N. Minsky and L. Vilkina of plays such as "Aglavena and Selizetta," "The Blind," "The Miracle of Saint Anthony," and others.
