Eugene Onegin

The novel in verse "Eugene Onegin" is the most famous and significant work of A. S. Pushkin, the pinnacle of Russian poetry and the subject of numerous studies. Pushkin began writing the novel in May 1823 and completed it only in the autumn of 1831, when the "Letter of Onegin to Tatiana" was created. In the autumn of 1823, he informed his friends: "...I am now writing not a novel, but a novel in verse — a devilish difference..." Entertaining, light, based on a love story, conveyed in a manner of the author's confiding conversation with the reader, and yet full of unresolved paradoxes and mysteries. The contradictions and multidimensionality that constitute the very essence of Pushkin's novel attract new generations of readers, allowing them to discover new meanings within it.
