Thirteen-year-old Fiorella has never experienced anything bad in her life. She has not had to endure her parents' divorce, a move, or separation from friends; she has never suffered from any serious illness or broken anything, has not failed a... year in school, and has not faced bullying. And then, suddenly, Fiore's mother dies. In just one day, the calm and familiar life of the family is turned upside down. Fiorella has to grow up and take care of her little sister Maggie — because the girls' father falls into a deep depression after the tragedy and cannot take care of them. Every day, while grieving, Fiorella struggles with herself: she wants nothing more than to go to school, hang out with friends, and fall in love... But she feels torn between the overwhelming responsibility placed upon her and the desire to live the life of an ordinary teenager.
