The Return of Münchhausen. Memories of the Future

The creative legacy of Sigizmund Krzhizhanovsky (1887–1950), a remarkable writer, playwright, philosopher, historian, and theater theorist, remained unknown to a wide readership until recently. The situation changed in the late 1980s - early 1990s: the writer's widow preserved his archive, and his works finally came to light. They bizarrely combined Soviet reality - and fantasy, grotesque, satire - and paradox. Krzhizhanovsky's prose is intellectual and largely experimental, captivating with its stylistic mastery and non-trivial plot twists.
