The series "Mysterious Tales" is a collection of works of short prose written in the 19th - first half of the 20th century. Stories that introduce readers to a world where the ordinary coexists with the supernatural, where the fates of the heroes are determined by terrifying otherworldly forces, and the very boundary between life and death turns out to be tenuous have long been popular. Shrouded in a dark color, dramatic plots about ancestral curses, mysteries of ancient portraits, deals with the devil, restless souls, ghosts, etc., became particularly popular during the Romantic era. But even later, readers' interest in them did not fade: even in the era of philosophical skepticism, the flourishing of science, and the triumph of technology, gothic literature remains in demand, and the mysterious, unexplainable, miraculous continues to attract and mesmerize. The collection features stories by Russian writers of the first half of the 19th century: A. Pogorelsky, A. S. Pushkin, N. V. Gogol, V. F. Odoevsky, and others.
