"The Last of the Mohicans" is a historical novel by American writer J. F. Cooper, returning readers to the era of brutal conquests of America by Europeans and bloody wars with the Indians. Such times give rise to true heroes.
The French are waging war against the English for American lands and are enlisting the help of the native population - the Indians. One of the allies of the French, the treacherous and vengeful Huron Magua, kidnaps the two daughters of English Colonel Munro - the brave Cora and the tender young Alice. Accompanying the girls' rescue are the famous English Major Heyward Duncan and the brave hunter Hawkeye along with their loyal friends Chingachgook and his son Uncas. To free the captives, the heroes must embark on a difficult and long journey: to find the faithful trail, so carefully hidden by the cruel Hurons; to pass under the crossfire of two armies and to show all their courage, bravery, and resourcefulness.
