Dinka

The beginning of the 20th century. The province, summer with the family at the dacha near Samara. What child doesn't get bored? Eight-year-old Dinka, tired of relatives and dull days, seeks adventure. She has a complex, free-spirited, and willful character,... and often she secretly escapes from home to the Volga. But one of her outings becomes fateful for the girl. She meets Lenka, an orphaned boy in difficult conditions. Dinka does not yet know that they will become lifelong friends... The largely autobiographical tale by Valentina Oseeva (1902-1969) depicts the coming of age of children in such a difficult revolutionary time. They learn to be friends, to value honor and honesty, to be loyal and true to each other, while also getting to know people and the world around them.
