Golden Childhood

In pre-revolutionary Russia, the name Teffi was known to literally everyone. It was written about her: "Teffi in our literature (and not only ours!) is a unique and hardly repeatable phenomenon. Mult faceted, independent, all by herself, unlike anyone else,... Teffi." The "queen of Russian humor" enjoyed such immense fame that the 'words' of her characters instantly became winged, for the sharp gaze of the writer was able to capture the truth of life, noticing both the funniest and the most tragic aspects. Teffi's stories, even the sad ones, can still evoke a feeling of pity in readers for those she good-naturedly laughs at, precisely good-naturedly, since her humor is always benevolent.
