The Talented Mr. Ripley

Arriving in New York, Tom Ripley was full of ambitious plans: to become a famous actor, to achieve glory, to get rich... But reality turns out to be much more mundane. Struggling with sporadic earnings and suffering from a sense... of his own worthlessness, Mr. Ripley can't even hold a job as an accountant in a department store. But suddenly he receives an unexpected offer — to go to Italy and persuade his good acquaintance Dickie Greenleaf, the son of a wealthy businessman, to return home to America. Meeting Dickie, a carefree darling of fate, a chosen one, for whom paradise on earth is prepared, is a chance to start anew. However, very soon Mr. Ripley's hopes turn to dust. The world again casually rejects him. And Ripley realizes: he has to either die or become another person — Richard Greenleaf.
