Our Entertainers. Humorous Stories

The human vices, virtues, and quirks highlighted by the classic satirist of the late 19th to early 20th century, Nikolai Alexandrovich Leikin, have not changed at all over time, although more than a hundred years have passed since then. Many character types depicted in his work are just as relevant now as they were back then: annoying audiences in cultural leisure spots, a specific audience responding to advertisements, those who love to give unsolicited advice, intrusive outsiders, jealous people, braggarts, and drunkards. There is also the pressing topic of epidemics and the ways people cope not only with illnesses but also with mass panic. In addition to themes resonant with modern times, other topics are reflected in the texts, providing a vivid, lively representation of a bygone era through interesting everyday details.
