Doctor Vera. Anya

"Doctor Vera" is a story about a young surgeon Vera Treshnikova, who decided to stay with her patients in the occupied Verkhnevolzhsk. The city is under shelling, and the number of wounded in the wards is increasing, while supplies of... medication and food are dwindling. Moreover, Vera risks her life every day, hiding wounded soldiers within the hospital walls, thereby violating the laws set by the occupying authorities... The main character of the story "Anya", Captain Vladimir Mechetny, recalls how fate brought him together with the medical orderly Anya while crossing the Oder. The brave Anya pulled the severely wounded captain from under the shelling and took care of him for many months while he recovered from his serious injury. Having nearly lost his sight, Mechetny couldn't even see her face, yet her bright image remained forever in his memory.
