Riddles of the Peoples of My Country. A Collection of Riddles

An encyclopedic publication that provides a comprehensive understanding of the riddles of the peoples of Russia as an integral part of their cultural heritage within the framework of the "minor genre" of oral folk art. Linguists and folklorists of the... past, with rare exceptions, have dealt with riddles "incidentally", as a "supplement". It is no coincidence that a riddle is sometimes called the Cinderella of folklore. This work presents the most extensive selection of riddles from the peoples of historical Russia to date and, as far as possible, fills in existing gaps. Through the prism of the content of the riddles themselves, comments on them, a glossary, and illustrations, it opens up a variety of information about the surrounding world, economic activities, and the history of the peoples of our country.
