Taming the Red Horse

The second book in the detective series by Yulia Yakovleva about the investigator Zaitsev, set in the 1930s in Leningrad. The plot centers around a death at the races: the jockey Zhemchuzhny and the miracle of Soviet genetics, the famous horse Pryanik, perish. To solve the crime, Zaitsev has to find himself in a variety of places: at the racetrack and in a veterinary clinic, in a tavern and at the station. Fate will also take him to the south of the country, ravaged by famine. Yulia Yakovleva's historical novel is about the millstones of time, in which it is difficult but necessary to preserve oneself.
