The Moon Keeper

Bear cub Emil lives in the Southern Hemisphere, and the phases of the Moon look different to him than to the inhabitants of the Northern Hemisphere. When the moon wanes, Emil sees that pieces start to disappear from the left.... And when the moon reappears, Emil sees a narrow crescent whose tips point to the right. In the Northern Hemisphere, everything happens the other way around: when the moon wanes, pieces start to disappear from the right. And when the tips of the crescent point to the left, it means the moon is waxing. To make it easier to determine the phase of the Moon, the inhabitants of the Northern Hemisphere say this: if the crescent resembles the letter C, it means the moon is old.
