Magician Monks

The heroes of Pu Songling's collection of stories "Magician Monks" are, on one hand, deceivers and funny people; on the other hand, they are saints, knowing magical techniques and thus dangerous, deserving of all kinds of veneration. These monks are perceptive, they know the secrets of this world and the other, they are sorcerers and magicians. They can easily authoritatively mix reality with chimeras and, ultimately punishing vice or foolishness, change their face to someone else's, erect buildings in a wasteland, or pass through a wall.
