Draft: Photo Album

The uncomfortable in its calm frankness book "Russia. Draft" by Dima Markov evokes interest, respect, and a feeling of helplessness. The author's extreme life experience, which is honestly documented in the book through text and photographs, is interesting. His openness... and lack of moralizing regarding the complex topic of the lives of people who, for various reasons, find themselves on the margins, those who are usually referred to as marginal individuals, is admirable. The book contains one hundred and forty-three color photographs taken with a mobile phone over the past two to three years in provincial Russia. Through the specific details of the biography, environment, everyday life, and places captured by the author, a familiar cultural geography emerges for many who were born and raised here.
