A Hero of Our Time. Poems and Prose

The heroes of the works of Mikhail Yurevich Lermontov, both lyrical and prose, are often portrayed as misunderstood and superfluous to the world around them. Pechorin became disillusioned with life from a young age, Arbenin lost trust in his beloved and in high society, while Demon could not find a refuge in the earthly world. Lermontov skillfully conveys their spiritual torment, and the characters themselves become significant figures in Russian literature.
