Humphrey Clinkera's Journey

England of the 18th century. Wealthy gentleman Matthew Bramble goes to the waters for treatment. He never tires of talking about the fact that in pursuit of recovery you can catch an infection, and yet, despite the dangers, he takes... his sister, niece and nephew with him. Bramble's sister, a young woman, still hopes for marriage and believes that going to a water resort is a great chance. The niece seeks to forget her unhappy love. The nephew is looking for fun. And the maid traveling with them gossips, and new reasons for gossip appear when the groom Humphrey Clinker joins this company.

This is the plot of the novel written by the classic of English literature Tobias George Smollett (1721-1771). This work, full of humor, is rightfully considered the pinnacle of the work of the author, who had a significant influence on other English writers - including Charles Dickens.
