Its inhabitants made noise, littered, broke branches, and frightened the venerable beaver family. Berta could not even imagine in her worst nightmare that soon she would steal a child from the camp. Well, not steal – save the girl Marusya from three months of boredom, loneliness, and bullying. Now, the reclusive Berta has to watch over a stranger's child all summer, who, moreover, has faced trouble at home. Marusya's mother fell ill and stopped recognizing her. How can one comfort someone like that? But despite everything, Marusya and Berta have a wonderful time together. The girl gradually changes the life of the unwelcoming inhabitant of Lingonberry Hill. And the hardest thing for Berta turns out to be letting Marusya go when summer finally comes to an end.
