The collection includes two of Ostrovsky's most famous plays - "The Thunderstorm" from 1859 and "The Dowryless Woman" from 1878. Both plays describe the tragic fate of their heroines. Two broken lives. Two passionate hearts. Two piercing love stories. And two attempts to break free from a closed circle. In Ostrovsky's time, "The Thunderstorm" had the effect of a bombshell, and it is no coincidence that the critic Dobrolyubov called its heroine "a ray of light in the dark kingdom." Despite changing times, the plays retain their relevance. Because hypocrisy, ostentatious virtue, selfishness, and self-love will always confront sincere feelings and true yearnings of the soul.
