A curator is found dead in a freezer at the American Museum of Natural History. And in another state, a craftsman who made copies of ancient relics was shot dead. It soon becomes clear: the two murders are connected.
While FBI Special Agent Aloysius Pendergast's colleagues are busy with these investigations, he himself is engrossed in another case - a case in which he has a personal interest. Pendergast's assistant Constance, obsessed with revenge, entered into battle with Dr. Enoch Lang, a mad experimenter whose test subjects are living people. The enemy is too dangerous, and Pendergast is desperately looking for a way to help Constance. But is this possible? After all, both Leng and Constance are much further away than one might imagine...
