The Shepherd and the Shepherdess. Stories and Tales

Viktor Petrovich Astafyev 1924–2001 – a Russian writer of the 20th century, participant in the Great Patriotic War. The novella "The Shepherd and the Shepherdess" is referred to by the author as a "modern pastoral." The heroes, accustomed to the peaceful rural life, inadvertently become participants in the terrible war. The collection also includes the stories "Why Did I Kill the Corncrake?", "Fight", "Drop", "Milyakha and the Cat Gromilo" and the novella "Tsar-Fish."
