Midgard is one of the nine worlds that, according to Scandinavian mythology, are connected through Yggdrasil – the great tree. In Midgard, humans reside, while other worlds are inhabited by various spirits, gods, snakes, and other magical beings.

In the abstract... board game "Stones of Ragnarok", players take on the role of chieftains of their Viking clans, whose goal is to seize as much territory in Midgard as possible. To do this, they have 3 Vikings from their clan at their disposal, who move across Midgard, and rune stones, with which they encircle their territories. A player's turn consists of two stages: moving a Viking in a straight line in any direction for any distance, and placing a rune stone on the board. To conquer territory, the area on the game board must be bounded by rune stones and/or the edge of the game board. If there is a Viking from only one clan, that is, from one player, in the enclosed territory, then this territory immediately becomes conquered and belongs to the player whose Viking is inside. Each cell within the conquered territory earns the player victory points.
