The artist inherits a huge stack of photographs depicting one giant chestnut tree. A student dies from an electric shock, but she is resurrected by ghosts made of air and light. A scientist makes a discovery that trees are capable... of communicating with each other. During the Vietnam War, a soldier thrown from a shot-down plane survives by falling into the branches of a banyan tree. All these people, along with five other strangers, gradually discover that there is another world existing alongside us – vast, slow, interconnected, and practically invisible to humans. This is the story of those who have learned to see this world, and now they are called to protect it from inevitable catastrophe, knowing that the odds of success are nearly nonexistent.
