The Black Beauty

The story of English writer Anna Sewell (1820–1878), Black Beauty, was first published in 1877 and immediately became a bestseller. The book still belongs to the peak of children's literary classics; Black Beauty is still not only the most famous... horse in the world but also one of the most popular animal characters in cinema – more than 20 films and series have been made with this title. And no other story as exciting, moving, and kind about the friendship between a horse and a human has been written.
The action of the story takes place in England in the mid-19th century when horse transport was the main means of moving around. The main character is a beautiful, intelligent black horse with a white star on its forehead, called Black Beauty; the events are described from its perspective. Black Beauty thinks and reasons like a human – both about other horses and their owners, who are best characterized by their attitude towards horses. They are both kind and noble, who never harm horses, as well as cruel and heartless. The book makes one empathize with every living creature and instills kindness, understanding, and humanity in children.
