These are questions constantly repeated among literati and Russian readers», — noted after the publication of the second chapter of the novel the writer,... enterprising publisher, and, by the way, the hero of numerous epigrams by Pushkin, Faddey Bulgarin.

For a long time, «Eugene Onegin» has not been assessed. Speaking in the words of the same Bulgarin, it is «written in Pushkin's verses. That's enough». However, illustrators still delight readers with various artistic interpretations of the novel in verse. One of the first cycles of drawings for «Eugene Onegin» was created by Pavel Sokolov, whom his contemporaries called «the creator of Tatyana». And half a century later, an exquisite publication from one of the best Russian printing houses — «Partnership of R. Golike and A. Wilborg», supplier to the Imperial court, with watercolors by Elena Samokish-Sudkovskaya, enjoyed enormous popularity.
