Explanatory Dictionary of the Russian Language

The famous dictionary by Vladimir Ivanovich Dal presents the vocabulary of the Russian language in all its diversity. Many articles contain proverbs, sayings, and excerpts from folk songs as examples. This edition is a shortened version of the dictionary, which... in its full form contains more than 200 thousand words, not counting examples of usage and samples of oral folk creativity. The words included in this book can be found in Russian classical literature; familiar words that had different meanings in Dal's time; as well as a part of the vocabulary that describes historical realities. The text is reproduced in modern spelling, but retains the main features of the author's punctuation. The edition is aimed at everyone interested in the history of the Russian language.
