The Canadian writer Lucy Maud Montgomery 1874—1942 created the red-haired girl Anne Shirley, about whom she wrote a whole series of books. These books continue to enjoy incredible success to this day. The very first one — «Anne of Green... Gables» — saw the light in 1908. The story about the orphan girl Anne, who ended up at Green Gables on the farm in the family of brother and sister, Matthew and Marilla, brought Lucy Maud Montgomery fame. With her kindness, openness, and dreaminess, little Anne can endear herself even to the hardest and sternest people. Films and cartoons have been made based on the novel, and the house-museum on Prince Edward Island, dedicated to Anne, is constantly visited by crowds of tourist fans. The book includes the works: «Anne of Green Gables» and «Anne of Avonlea».
