Arkady Petrovich Gaidar, real surname Golikov (1904-1941) – a Russian writer, war correspondent, and a classic of Soviet children's literature. Gaidar began his writing career after leaving the army. According to his contemporaries, Arkady composed his works "on the go":... he thought of stories right on the road and wrote them down in simple notebooks. "The Tale of Military Secret, of Malchish-Kibalchish and his firm word" (1933) is a story about a brave boy whose father and older brother went to war against the bourgeoisie. The courageous Malchish did not hesitate to resist enemies and rallied other boys to fight against evil. The strong-spirited hero of the tale became an example for millions of Soviet children.
