In the extensive creative legacy of the classic of world literature Giovanni Boccaccio (1313–1375), poetry has always remained in the shadow of the «Decameron», the immortal masterpiece of his prose. Meanwhile, throughout his life, he wrote love lyrics dedicated to... his beloved Maria (whom he called Fiammetta – «little flame»), poems, and studies on Dante's legacy. The poems, the best of which in mastery are quite comparable to the works of Francesco Petrarch, became a kind of fixation of his feelings and reflections: from the enthusiasm of passionate youth to philosophical and often bitter thoughts of mature years. For the first time in Russian, a complete collection of the poet's lyrics is being published, including verses from the «Decameron», in new translations by Alexander Triandafillidi and Vladimir Oslon. The publication also includes the poem «The Hunt of Diana». The book is illustrated with engravings by the French artist of the 19th century, Tony Johannot (1803–1852).
