In 2002, according to a survey conducted among writers by the Nobel Institute, «Don Quixote» was recognized as the best novel in the entire history of world literature. The great monument erected by Cervantes inevitably casts a shadow over the rest of the great Spaniard's work, which is quite extensive: novels, short stories, plays... And of course — poetry. Poetry occupies a significant place in Cervantes' work: in all his writings, there are many poems and songs. And it can be said with a clear conscience: in the craft of versification, Cervantes does not yield at all to the best poets of his time. In his verses, as in his prose, high and low, seriousness and irony, tragedy and parody are intertwined. This edition is the first collection of poetic works by Cervantes in Russia. It includes poems from well-known novels and novellas (from «Don Quixote», «Galatea», «The Exemplary Novels»), excerpts from poems, songs from plays and interludes in remarkable translations, some of which were made specifically for this collection.
