The Defeat of Phaedra

Young Phaedra, the princess of Crete, could never have imagined that by the will of the gods she would become the wife of Theseus, the king of Athens, instead of her sister, the beautiful Ariadne. Naive and inexperienced, at first... she resigns herself to her fate: to be invisible at the court of her much older husband and to endure the rudeness from his young stepson Hippolytus.
But when Hippolytus attacks her and dishonors her, Phaedra refuses to remain silent and calls him to court. Phaedra is a foreigner, whose reputation is stained by family scandal. Hippolytus is a man of honor and a model of virtue, sworn to the goddess of chastity Artemis. Who will be the victim? And who will be punished? Now the fates of Phaedra and Hippolytus lie in the hands of the great men of Athens, and only women understand how slippery the truth can be in their selfish hands.
