Vices and Obsessions

On his first day working as a librarian, Maximo gets the chance to peek into the legendary Encyclopedia of Medicine, which exists in a single copy and contains information about all the vices and diseases that afflict humanity.

The Disease of... Mnemosyne, endowing patients with unmatched memory power at the expense of all other mental abilities. Contagious melancholy. Corpus fractum, in which the victims acquire the physical traits of those they have harmed, turning into a composite monster. Continuous pregnancy. A disease that mimics death, a diagnosis that can often only be made after the funeral. As Maximo will soon discover, medicine can turn out to be something more than he anticipated.

«Vices and Obsessions» — is a mystical collection of pseudo-diseases compiled by a contemporary scholar. Gradually, whimsical physical and moral defects reveal to the reader a picture of the eternal struggle between human desire and the limits of bodily existence.
