Ivan Pavlovich Podushkin loves to spend time with a good book more than anything. But due to the law of the contrary, every time the private detective settles down comfortably with a volume of his favorite author in hand, the doorbell rings, and another client appears in the office. Today’s visitor turned out to be Yuri Mironov, who is convinced he saw his mother at the shopping mall. What’s so strange about that? Women love to shop. The only thing is, Ekaterina Semyonovna passed away a few months ago. And soon after, Yuri’s mother-in-law and father-in-law also departed this world. Moreover, they left in their sleep — heart attack, stroke. But they weren’t afflicted with any such ailments… Yuri suspects that their deaths could have benefitted Andrey — Dusya’s friend, his wife’s sister. He’s a sorcerer, a fraud, conning people out of money and could very well have coveted the inheritance. Mironov asks Podushkin to expose the villain. And to answer the question: what was his deceased mother doing in the store?
