What Lies Beyond the Veil

Once we worshiped them as gods. For almost four hundred years the Veil protected us from the fairies of Alvheim. And then we perished by their swords. Everything changed in one day — the Veil fell, letting the fairies into our world. They place marks on those they wish to subdue, but the Mist Guard, which protects the human world, has been ordered to destroy us all — both those who bear the magical mark and those whom the fairies have yet to reach. All my life, I have tended the gardens at the border of our worlds, and the shimmering magic of the Veil has drawn me in like a flame draws a moth.
