«Scattered poet, a genius» - this is how Marina Tsvetaeva described Ellis - L.L. Kobylinsky. In general, Ellis's poetry was not liked, sometimes it was venomously criticized, sometimes indifferently commented on. His first poetry collection “Stigmata”, which saw the light...
in 1911, had the structure of the «Divine Comedy» with its Hell, Purgatory, and Heaven. The collection became merely a religious, pompous verse for contemporary writers. In 1914, the last domestic collection of Mr. Ellis, «Argo», would be published in Russia, although Lev Kobylinsky had long been in Germany, indulging in the study of Steiner. «Argo» was successful, but this no longer particularly interested the author. And so, Ellis was forever assigned the status of a talented critic, theorist... Today, the reader can decide for themselves whether to add the word «poet» to the list separated by commas.
The book includes both poetry collections of Ellis with author prefaces and additional parts «Forgotten Vows» and «Maria».
