The Haunted House

Throughout her life, Virginia Woolf wrote stories: she made small notes and set them aside until they became part of novels or completed works. In 1921, the only lifetime collection titled Monday or Tuesday was published. In 1940, she decided... to release a new book, including both previously published stories—six from the book and six printed in various magazines—as well as previously unpublished ones. She discussed this idea extensively with her husband—Leonard Woolf, who published the collection of eighteen stories The Haunted House in 1941—after her death. Woolf constructs the plots of her stories as observations of people, phenomena, or situations. These observations give rise to reflections, capturing in words states, thoughts, and the search for truth.
