The History of Tom Jones, a Foundling. Volume 2

The epic novel by the outstanding English writer of the 18th century, Henry Fielding (1707–1754), is based on a classic plot of that time, aimed at showing that noble birth is by no means a guarantee of soul nobility, and low origins do not mean that a person is only capable of baseness.
“The History of Tom Jones” tells the story of an orphaned youth raised in an aristocratic family who, despite his questionable origins, displays all the qualities of a true gentleman: selflessness, honesty, and sincerity. As is fitting in such a story, it is precisely these qualities that will help the main character find happiness, while all who stood in his way will face just punishment… But it is not this banal plot that made Fielding's work a classic of English literature. “The History of Tom Jones” is a realistic and at times amusing portrayal of English life and morals of that time.
