The book includes three novellas:... Five Children and It, The Phoenix and the Carpet, and The Story with the Amulet. They tell of the adventures of brothers and sisters. The children find a wonderful creature named the Psammead. He has lived in the sand for thousands of years and can grant one wish a day. Will the fulfillment of wishes bring happiness to the children? In the second novella, a real Phoenix and a carpet appear, which can transport the boys and girls anywhere they wish!
