The Prince. On the Art of War

The most famous work of the writer became the treatise The Prince, originally published in Russia under the titles Duke and Ruler. Machiavelli created a doctrine about a consistently secular state, free from ecclesiastical morality. He believed that in the... struggle for the strengthening of the state, any means were permissible: violence, deceit, treachery. The term machiavellianism, which later emerged, began to denote a policy that disregards the laws of morality. However, today many of the author's positions are taken for granted, having found their embodiment in the history of the 20th century. The book also includes the brilliant treatise by Niccolò Machiavelli On the Art of War, which astonished his contemporaries with its rigid and pragmatic approach not only to military tactics but also to strategy.
